At M.A Solicitors, we provide clear, upfront pricing for clients facing motoring offences in the Magistrates’ Court. Our aim is to offer accessible, specialist representation at a fair and transparent cost.
1. Overview of Our Fees
We offer fixed fee representation for most summary only motoring offences heard in the Magistrates’ Court, including:
- Speeding
- Drink driving
- Failing to provide a specimen
- Driving without insurance
- Tottingup disqualification
- Exceptional hardship applications
- Special reasons arguments
Our fees cover preparation, advice, and representation at court.
As at September 2026, we are not VAT registered, therefore VAT is not chargeable.
2. Fixed Fees for Motoring Offences
Written Mitigation Only – Letter of Mitigation to the Court £200 – £350 (fixed fee)
Guilty Plea – Representation at Court for Guilty Plea and Sentence £450 – £850 (fixed fee). Includes:
- Case assessment
- Advice on plea and likely sentence
- Preparation of mitigation
- Representation at the hearing

E. Exceptional Hardship Applications
£700 – £1,000 (fixed fee) For clients seeking to avoid a totting up disqualification.
F. Special Reasons Arguments
Half-day: £1,000 – £1,400
Full-day: £1,600 – £2,000
Additional day: £400 – £600
G. Applications to Remove Disqualification
£800 – £1,200 (fixed fee) For applications to lift a driving ban early.
3. What Our Fixed Fees Include
Our fixed fees cover:
- Reviewing case papers
- Advising on plea, evidence, and likely outcomes
- Preparing mitigation or defence strategy
- Drafting supporting documents
- Representation at the Magistrates’ Court
- Advice on appeal options
4. Additional Costs (If Applicable)
Some cases require additional work or third party input and we will of course inform you in advance should additional costs be payable.
A. Disbursements
These may include:
- Expert forensic reports
- Medical evidence
- Interpreter fees
- Specialist reports
B. Travel to Distant Courts
If your hearing is outside our usual area, additional charges may apply:
- Travel time: £90 – £120 per hour
- Mileage: £0.45 – £0.55 per mile
5. Timescales
Timescales depend on the court and the nature of the case.
- Guilty plea: usually concluded at the first hearing
- Exceptional hardship: typically resolved at one hearing
- Trials: often take 8–12+ weeks to list and may involve multiple hearings
6. When Fixed Fees May Not Apply
A fixed fee may not be suitable where:
- The case is unusually complex
- There are multiple defendants
- There are significant evidential disputes
- The matter involves specialist expert evidence
