M.A Solicitors – Debt Recovery Pricing Information (Up to £100,000)

This pricing guide explains the likely costs involved in recovering unpaid business debts. It is designed to comply with the SRA Transparency Rules and to give clients clear, upfront information about fees, timescales, and what is included in our service.

1. Overview of Our Fees

Our fees for business debt recovery depend on the complexity of the matter, the debtor’s response, and whether court proceedings are required.

As of September 2026, VAT is not payable on our fees, as we are not VAT registered. 

Typical Fee Range: £300 – £50,000 plus disbursements (if applicable) 

2. What Our Service Includes

Our debt recovery service typically covers:

  • Taking your initial instructions
  • Reviewing the debt and supporting documents
  • Sending a formal letter before action
  • Attempting to negotiate payment or settlement
  • Advising you on next steps
  • Preparing court documents if proceedings are required
  • Instructing Counsel and attending case conferences (if required)
  • Managing correspondence with the debtor and/ or their representatives
  • Representing you at preliminary hearings (if required)
  • Advising you on offers and settlement options
  • Preparing for final hearing and arranging representation

4. Disbursements (Third Party Costs)

Disbursements are costs payable to external bodies. The reference page lists similar categories such as court fees, counsel fees, expert fees, and travel expenses.

Typical disbursements include:

  • Court fees (set by HMCTS; no VAT)
  • Barrister fees (if required)
  • Expert reports (if needed)
  • Tracing agents (if debtor location is unknown)
  • Travel expenses (if hearings require attendance)

Most disbursements attract VAT except court fees, consistent with the reference page.

5. What Is Not Included

Additional fees may apply for:

  • Enforcement action (e.g., High Court Enforcement Officers)
  • Insolvency proceedings
  • Complex disputes requiring extensive evidence
  • Counterclaims
  • Appeals

6. Timescales

Timescales depend on the debtor’s cooperation and whether court action is required.

  • Preaction resolution: 3–12 weeks 
  • Court proceedings to final hearing: up to 12- 18 months
